Logline: Can a combat veteran find therapy and purpose through war reenacting?
My thesis film "Real Fake War" tells the story of TJ Truax, who joined the Marine Corps after graduating high school and was sent to Afghanistan in 2013. Upon his return and eventual discharge, he struggles to make sense of what he experienced and find a purpose in civilian life. He finds it in a hobby he’s enjoyed since high school - war reenacting. With a new view on true nature of war, TJ uses this outlet to teach

about conflicts of the past and find a sense of belonging among his fellow reenactors, which he credits with helping him navigate his PTSD.
James "Skip" Liberty enlisted in the Army in 1968. During his tour in Vietnam from ‘69-’70, Skip shot 3,100 feet of Super 8 film, just over 3 hours worth. Upon returning to the states, the film was sealed in a box and placed in storage, Skip had never seen the footage he shot. Until now. Streaming on HistoryFix, Amazon Prime, and Tubi. Photography
Red devils in the pineapple
These photos were taken in Lake Charles, Louisiana in September of 2024 during "Red Devils in the Pineapple", a Vietnam War reenactment. I used a Pentax Spotmatic on Kodak Ultramax, and I stayed as true as I could to techniques and processes of the period.
Troops in town
I took these photos at the "Troops in Town" WW2 reenactment in Celina, Ohio in June of 2024. They were taken with an Argus C3 on Ilford HP5, staying true to 1940's photography methods.
